A Weekend Adventure on Phillip Island: Exploring, Relaxing, and Staying Organised with Mika Creations

There’s nothing like a weekend getaway to recharge the soul, and Phillip Island provided the perfect escape. As the founders of Mika Creations, our love for travel and organisation followed us to this beautiful slice of Victoria, where we spent a memorable weekend filled with exploration, relaxation, and good food. Here’s a glimpse into our journey, our packing essentials, and how our eco-friendly products added ease and style to the trip.

Day 1: Exploring Cape Woolamai and Cowes

We kicked off our weekend adventure with a drive to Phillip Island, arriving at Cape Woolamai first. Known for its breathtaking coastal views and rugged cliffs, this spot didn’t disappoint. A short walk along the trails allowed us to soak in the scenery, with waves crashing against the shore and seabirds soaring overhead. There were lots of surfers out on the waves enjoying the good swell.

Next, we made our way to Cowes, the island’s main town. We strolled through the boutique shops, picking up some locally made treasures and enjoying the friendly atmosphere. Mid-morning, we were ready to check into our Airbnb, The Smith Girls Shack, a convenient and internally stylish retreat nestled in the heart of Cowes.

Unpacking was a breeze, thanks to our Mika Creations packing cubes. The small cube held socks, underwear, etc, while the large cube kept shorts, tops, and pants neatly organised. Our overnight bag carried toiletries, shoes and a trusty puffer jacket, just in case the weather turned chilly.

Beach Time and a Delicious Dinner

After settling in, we grabbed our wet bag to store our phones, Airpods, paperback and purse, whilst in the water and headed to Cowes Beach for some well-deserved relaxation. The warm sun, soft sand, and gentle waves made for a blissful afternoon of sunbathing. After our swim and returned to our accommodation the wet bag was perfect for keeping our wet bathers separate from the rest of our belongings—a small but important detail that kept everything organised.

As the day rolled on, we made our way to the Phillip Island Hotel for a healthy lunch. The Thai beef salad and rocket and pear salad were fresh, flavourful, and absolutely delicious. Feeling satisfied and relaxed, we returned to our Airbnb to freshen up and change for the evening.

The weather was so lovely that we went for  another stroll around town and opted for takeaway from a local Chinese restaurant and enjoyed our meal back at the shack. Eating outdoors under the stars was the perfect way to wind down our first day on the island.

Day 2: Beach Walks, Wildlife, and Scenic Views

Sunday morning greeted us with mixed weather and a short drive to the other end of the island, we set out to explore Shelly Beach. This serene spot offered a beautiful walk along the shore, where we marvelled at the unique shells, seaweed and driftwood that had washed up. It was a peaceful start to the day, connecting us with nature’s simple wonders.

Next, we headed to the near by Nobbies, a must-visit for any wildlife enthusiast. The views of the rugged coastline were incredible, but the highlight was spotting a few little penguins nestled in the rocks. The birdlife was equally captivating, with seabirds gliding effortlessly in the sea breeze.

For lunch, we stopped at a nearby produce store, savouring a meal made with fresh, local ingredients. It was the perfect fuel for our journey back to Melbourne. The drive home took about 1.5 hours, and we couldn’t help but reflect on what a wonderful weekend it had been.
